MACHINE KNITTED SLEEPING BAG
4 ply yarn, tension 7
Cast on 72 stitches – I used e-wrap from left
to right
Carriage at right hand side.
Knit 70 rows.
Carriage at right hand side.
Divide for armholes as follows
All needles to left of 0 and up to needle 18 on right of 0 – to holding
position
Leaves 18 needles on far right of work in use
With these 18 stitches, Knit 18 rows
At neck edge, decrease 1 stitch on next 8 rows. 10 sts
Knit 2 rows and cast off.
Put 18 needles to left and to right of 0, in to working position. 36 sts
Knit 28 rows
Cast off
Return remaining 18 sts to working position
With these 18 stitches, Knit 18 rows
At neck edge, decrease 1 stitch on next 8 rows. 10 sts
Knit 2 rows and cast off.
Join shoulder seams. If like me you prefer to keep sewing to a minimum, then
instead of casting off, take the stitches off on waste yarn and attach using
the knitting machine
Front Bands
(both the same but dare say you could put buttonholes on one side if you wanted)
Using waste yarn cast on 55 stitches and knit for several rows.
Knit 1 row using ravel cord in contrasting colour
Change to main colour, Carriage at right hand side
Knit 5 Rows tension 7
Knit 1 row tension 9
Knit 5 rows tension 7, Carriage on left hand side
Look at the knitting, at the ravel cord you will see the main yarn on the
first row makes “smiles”. Pick up every smile from this row and
put it on the corresponding needle.
Knit 1 row
With wrong side facing you, place the straight front edge of the body to the
needles and using the pronged tool, attach the body to the band by pushing
the prongs through the body and pulling the needle back though. Do this evenly
along the front.
Knit 1 row – tension 9
Cast off round the gate pegs.
Pull ravel cord and remove waste yarn
Repeat.
Neckband
Using waste yarn cast on 38 stitches and knit for several rows.
Knit 1 row using ravel cord in contrasting colour
Change to main colour, Carriage at right hand side
Knit 5 Rows tension 7
Knit 1 row tension 9
Knit 5 rows tension 7, Carriage on left hand side
Look at the knitting, at the ravel cord you will see the main yarn on the
first row makes “smiles”. Pick up every smile from this row and
put it on the corresponding needle.
Knit 1 row

band, 8 from each neck edge and 16 from back.
Knit 1 row – tension 9. Cast off round the gate pegs.
Sleeves – both the same
Using waste yarn, cast on 29 sts. Knit several rows. Knit 1 row with ravel
cord. Carriage at right hand side.
Using main yarn knit 4 rows.
From right to left move second and every alternate stitch to left hand side.
Knit 5 rows
Look at the knitting, at the ravel cord you will see the main yarn on the
first row makes “smiles”. Pick up every smile from this row and
put it on the corresponding needle. Knit 1 row, carriage at right hand side
(Move 1 needle each side in to working position, Knit 3 rows) repeat 3 times,
35 sts
Knit 8 rows. Cast off round the gate pegs. Sew up sleeve seam and insert in
to armhole. Finish off loose ends. Sew bottom of garment to turn in to sleeping
bag.
Sew fasteners on to bands
